In this guide, we’ll take you through the different styling possibilities, how the jacket should fit, and how to measure your chest, arms, and shoulders to achieve a timeless look.

Snug or loose fit?

That’s going to be a bit of a personal choice, but we say it’s better to have it fit somewhat close.

Many men tend to opt for a size up when it comes to buying their leather jacket, but going for a jacket that’s too big can make your silhouette appear too boxy.  Bear in mind that real leather will stretch slightly, especially if it is worn consistently, so that gives you a little leeway if you feel like your jacket may be slightly too small.

Make sure your jacket fits quite snug on your shoulders, and through to your chest and waist. The sleeves should end just where your wrist bends, whilst sitting nicely where your belt loops are.

It’s worth bearing in mind that your leather jacket should feel like a second skin.

But at the end it comes down to personal preferences. Also consider how you want to wear your jacket, just with a t-shirt or maybe with a zip hoodie? Size up if you want it somewhat loose.

Taking your measurements

1. SHOULDERS

The shoulders of your leather jacket should not be too tight or too baggy. Try on a jacket you already have that you feel is a nice snug fit. Take a tape measure and measure the width from the seam of the right shoulder to the seam of the left shoulder. If you have someone helping you with taking measurements, get them to place the tape measure across your back from one shoulder to the other as well.

2. CHEST

Start by standing up straight and relaxing your arms. Wrap a measuring tape around the upper part of the chest and take the measurement.

3. WAIST

The natural waist is the smallest area of the waist, usually an inch or two above the belly button. It can also be located easily by bending toward one side. Measure the circumference around this area to get your waist measurement.

4. LENGTH

To measure the ideal length of your leather jacket, place the tape measure at the top of your shoulder and then pull the tape measure down to the very top of your thigh, around where the bottom of your belt would sit. Take the measurement at this point.
